La Rat

In the year of La Rat, the sun spins in the sky like an amethyst basketball. Night falls, and the shadows stretch their legs from the street lamps down to the back alley behind the restaurant. The end of the cigarette meets the end of the shift, and so the scavenge begins, looking for treasure in the trash, nuggets in the rubble, hoping to reel in one of the biggest lobsters you’ve ever seen. 

It ain’t easy surviving in the underground habitat of a corrupt society, whose streets only get cleaned up when the king comes to town. But still, the seasoned traveller finds the goods everywhere, from sea shanties to street parades, dancing past dragons and point guards to get the jewels. Everyday brings a new discovery, and a chance to look around and find beauty in the red lilies and accordions that are right outside the front door.
